What is acupuncture? Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years. It involves placing fine needles into special locations on the body. There are over 600 recognised acupuncture points for dogs.
How does it work? According to traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture restores the equilibrium between physical, emotional and spiritual factors. It resolves imbalances in Yin and Yang and improves the flow of Qi and blood. Scientific research has led to the development of western scientific acupuncture. It has been shown that acupuncture affects the endogenous opioid system (the bodies natural pain relief). It also has normalising effects on the hypothalamus (an area of the brain that produces hormones that regulate many of the bodies functions) and autonomic nervous system (the part of the nervous system that regulates involuntary physiological processes).
What conditions can acupuncture help with? One of the major benefits of acupuncture is for pain relief. It can also help to improve recovery rates, increase resistance to disease, improve respiratory, digestive and reproductive problems.
